Academy Street Community Residence

The Academy House Community Residence (AHCR) is a 21-bed residence located in the Hudson Valley within the historic district of Poughkeepsie, NY. We are a Level II program, licensed by the State of New York, Office of Mental Health. We specialize in creating a healing environment for adults over the age of 24, suffering from severe and persistent mental health diagnoses such as schizophrenia, schizo-affective disorder and severe depression. We provide a structured living environment with 24-hour supervision and medication management. Academy House has been caring for individuals with mental illness for over 45 years.

We have in-house programs like Music, Art & Dance Movement Therapy, and we provide assistance with Independent Life Skills Training, teaching new skills like cooking, laundering, time management, computer skills, and budgeting. We utilize the methods taught by the Hearing Voices Network in helping individuals cope with their positive symptoms. We work closely with each resident teaching coping skills and anxiety management, goal setting and monitoring of his/her progress.

As proud members of the ARTA (American Residential Treatment Association – artausa.org) we are fortunate to have a large network of other programs available if it is determined that a different level of care is more suitable for you or your family member. We are also one of the few long-term options for those that need ongoing supervision and care.
